NEW MELODIST CD - ‘Flights Of Fancy’
A new Melodist CD has been released featuring Andrew Knights and Philip Gates in music for oboe • cor anglais • oboe d'amore and piano by Duparc, Gates, Poulenc, Kœchlin and Satie.
The Sonata for Oboe and Piano by Gates and Poulenc - the former in its première recording, the latter in the 2004 revised edition - are supplemented by arrangements of three Duparc songs and Kœchlin's visionary ‘Au Loin’.
Written specifically for Andrew Knights, the Gates Sonata is dedicated to the memory of the composer's late friend, the jazz pianist Matt Ross.
