Flights of Fancy presents music by Duparc, Gates, Kœchlin, Poulenc and Satie. Duparc songs, arranged for cor anglais and piano, are set beside Kœchlin's Au Loin, Gates' Oboe Sonata - dedicated to the memory of his late friend, the jazz pianist Matt Ross - and the Poulenc Oboe Sonata given in the 2004 revised edition. Andrew Knights and Philip Gates also play unaccompanied, the former in captivating Kœchlin monodies, the latter, Poulenc's haunting Mélancolie and Satie's Avant-dernière Pensées.
The previous compact disc from Melodist - a recording of ‘A Garland for Gatsby’ - received early critical acclaim in 2008. The sheet music was made available in early 2011. Both may be purchased here.
